Rubber Fenders: Design Requirements and Features
Design and manufacturing requirements
Rubber fenders should meet the following requirements in design and manufacture:
- Resistance to bending and shear.
- Resistance to local impact.
- The back plate and front face of the fender panel must not deform during compression.
- Good performance and adaptability to the environment, meeting the demands of a wide range of operating conditions.
Features of rubber fenders
- Modified rubber and other polymers are internally mixed and then formed in a single step by co-extruding soft and hard compounds through a die.
- Neat appearance, easy installation, good sealing performance, long service life, and a wide range of sizes and models.
- EPDM offers excellent weather resistance, meaning it can withstand severe cold, heat, dryness and humidity over long periods, and it resists erosion by rain and snow extremely well, greatly extending service life. It also has strong resistance to hot-air ageing.
- EPDM can be used continuously at 100–120 °C and retains its properties for long periods at 140–150 °C. With a suitable formulation, it behaves consistently from -50 °C to 150 °C and can withstand short exposures to 230–260 °C. EPDM is also highly resistant to ozone, which has earned it the name "crack-free rubber".
